Flood situation remains grim in Assam
The flood situation in Assam continued to remain grim with huge areas reeling under water from the river Brahmaputra and its tributaries.
Official reports reaching here said fresh areas had been inundated in lower Assam where the river Beki was playing havoc, forcing panic stricken villagers to abandon their houses.
The Brahmaputra was flowing above the danger mark at Dibrugarh, Naemati and Dhubri while its tributaries Jia Bhorali and Puthimari were also above the red mark.
The situation continued to remain grave for the second day on Sunday in Majuli, Asia's largest river island, where two portions of PWD road at Pahumara Garmur- Jengraimukh Haladhibari have been washed away.
The situation, meanwhile, in the worst hit Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts remained grave with the number of people affected going up to two lakhs.
In Lakhimpur, the situation in Dhakuakana sub division was very critical with large number of people taking shelter on raised platforms.
Over four lakh people of seven districts have been affected in this the second wave of flood that has hit the state.
