Flood-hit Tuticorin limps back to normalcy

Tuticorin District Collector M. Ravi Kumar said they were now focusing on preventing the spread of epidemics as many animals have died in the floods.
"The power supply has been restored in most parts," he said, adding, officials were now focusing on repairing roads.
Except at six places, he said there was no water logging.
"Those who had left their homes are now returning in many areas. The rain has stopped," he said.
However, in neighbouring Tirunelveli, District Collector M. Karunakaran issued flood warning.
"Tamirabharani river was carrying about 8000 cusecs of water this morning. The Papnasam Dam level touched 142 feet against its full capacity of 143 feet. 2500 cusecs of water is being released from the Papnasam and Servalar dams," he said.
The people in low lying areas of the district have been asked to move to safer places.
