Flat allotment to slum dwellers in Delhi to begin on January
Delhi govt will start allotment of low-cost flats to slum dwellers in the city from next month and in the first phase 1,400 dwelling units will be allotted.
The decision was taken at a board meeting of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit who directed Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board to start the allotment at the earliest.
"Initially, 1,400 flats will be allotted under the first phase of relocation of a number of slum clusters," a senior official said.
The meeting was attended by top officials of several departments concerned and agencies, including Urban Development department, MCD, NDMC, DDA and DJB.
"It was decided to issue allotment letters in the next month to 1,400 beneficiaries putting up in 13 slum clusters out of 46 clusters identified earlier for relocation," the official said.
The government has completed construction of 9,660 flats and another 5,168 are nearing completion in various areas across the city
The official said identification of beneficiaries is in full swing. The slum dwellers from SC community will get the flats free as Delhi Government had already decided to waive off the fee of Rs 60,000 for them.
The official said it was earlier decided that if a beneficiary, if settled in a slum cluster before 2002, will have to pay an amount of Rs 60,000 for a dwelling unit while those settled between 2002 and 2007 will have to pay an amount of Rs 1.22 lakh each.
