Fixed price for PDS food for five years, 25 lakh jobs in Left Democratic Front manifesto

KOCHI: Fixed price for five years for essential food articles distributed through civil supplies outlets, creation of 25 lakh job opportunities, 4 track high speed rail corridor and a special state wide programme to promote abstinence from liquor are the main features of the election manifesto released by Left Democratic Front ( LDF) on Tuesday .

LDF convenor Vaikkom Viswan said that the attempt of the Front is to create a secular, corruption-free, developed Kerala. The Manifesto promises time bound completion of mega projects like Vizinjam container transhipment terminal, Kannur airport and the light metro projects at Thiruvananthapuram and Kozikkode.

Smart highways, special programmes for waste management and a programme for better management of health sector are some of the other aspects of the Manifesto. Kerala will be made the cleanest state in the country, the Manifesto said.

It promises to create 25 lakh job opportunities in 5 years. For this special focus will be given on IT, electronics and tourism sectors. The number of doctors and nurses in the government hospitals will be doubled. The manifesto promises a separate university for Ayurveda and rejects the proposal that salary revision need be effected only once in ten years. There will be a special package for traditional industries. The PSUs will be made profitable.

Kerala will be made self-sufficient in vegetables, milk and egg production. Welfare pensions will be increased to Rs 1000. A model fisheries village will be set up by the government.

The undeclared ban on fresh appointments will be lifted. LDF also promises Rs 5000 crore development in the coastal areas. Thousand government schools will be upgraded top international standards.
