In Manipur, five JD(U) MLAs merged with ruling party BJP on Friday.

"Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly is pleased to accept the merger of the following Members of Legislature Party of JD(U) to the Legislature Party of BJP in the Manipur Legislative Assembly under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of India: Khumukcham Joykisan Singh, Member Thangmeiband, Ngursanglur Sanate Tipaimukh, Md Achab Uddin Jiribam, Thangjam ArunkumarWangkhei and L.M. Khaute Churachandpur," said K. Meghajit Singh, Secretary of Manipur Legislative Assembly.

JD (U) has won six seats in the assembly polls early this year.


BJP won 32 seats in the 60-member assembly. BJP’s erstwhile ally National People’s Party secured seven seats while Janata Dal (United) won six seats, the Congress and the Naga People Front bagged five seats each, Kuki People's Alliance (KPA), a newly floated tribal based party, managed two seats and three Independent candidates also got elected to the assembly.

The NPF, JD (U) and an independent member announced to support the BJP government. Even the KPA pledged support to the BJP led government.

Joykisan joined JD(U) just before polls. in 2017 Joykisan switched over to the Congress from BJP. Ahead of polls he joined the JD(U) following his suspension from Congress.
