A Special Court in Guwahati has sent General Secretary of militant outfit ULFA, Anup Chetia to five days custody.

GUWAHATI: A Special Court in Guwahati has sent General Secretary of militant outfit ULFA, Anup Chetia to five days custody.

CBI has sought 14 days custody however the court granted five day custody. Chetia was handed over to India by Bangladesh on November and on November 12 CBI was given six days transit demand for Chetia.

There is case against Chetia relating to a murder case in Golaghat district in 1986. Chetia who is in the Central jail in Kashimpur area of Dhaka in Bangladesh was one of founder member of ULFA. Chetia was first arrested in March, 1991 in Assam but was released by government.

In 1997 he was arrested in Dhaka for illegally carrying foreign currencies and a satellite phone. He was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment by a Bangladeshi court.
