Five arrested for making casteist remarks against Mayawati

Five activists of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ambavas group) have been arrested for allegedly making casteist remarks against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and offering a reward to anyone who "elimates" her.

PRATAPGARH: Five activists of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ambavas group) have been arrested for allegedly making casteist remarks against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and offering a reward to anyone who "elimates" her.

Police alleged that during a sit-in programme at the District Magistrate's office on Thursday, casteist remarks were made against the chief minister and a reward of Rs 10 lakh was announced for anyone who "eliminated" her.

An FIR under the SC/ST Act was lodged yesterday against eight named persons and about 15 unidentified men, police said. Five of those named in the FIR have been arrested, police said adding that hunt was on to arrest the others.
