First arrest made in Purulia killing

KOLKATA: Three weeks after the body of 18 year old Trilochan Mahato was found hanging from a tree near his village, Supradihi in Purulia district, the criminal investigation department (CID) made the first arrest in the case. Mahato’s white T-shirt was inscribed “punished at this age for working with BJP”.

Forty five year old Punjabi Mahato , a resident of the same village where Trilochan used to live , has been picked up by a special team , said a senior official of CID.

Based on a complaint lodged by Hariram Mahato , father of Trilochan, a murder case was initiated. According to sources, the accused person is still being interrogated in Balarampur police station and motive of murder is yet to be ascertained.


Significantly , Hariram Mahato recently filed a writ petition before Calcutta High Court seeking a CBI probe into the murder case.
