Fire in Oil India Limited's well, anti talk ulfa claims responsibility

A major fire broke out in the Oil India Limited's (OIL) well in Makum in Upper Assam. Oil authorities claim that they have managed to kill the oil and gas producing well.

GUWAHATI: A major fire broke out in the Oil India Limited's (OIL) well in Makum in Upper Assam. Oil authorities claim that they have managed to kill the oil and gas producing well.

Anti talk ULFA militants under commander in chief, Paresh Baruah has claimed responsibility for the fire. Militant outfit in a statement to media houses claimed that it has triggered a blast.

OIL spokesman Tridiv Hazarika told ET, "Fire broke out at around 1.30am. It appears some miscreants tired to temper with the oil well. Fire was doused at around 5.30am."

Oil companies in Assam had in past incurred huge losses as due to miscreant activity fires have broke out.

Another oil spokesperson, Jishnu Sharma added that well was producing one to two kilo liters of oil and 2500 standard cubic meter of gas.
