FIR registered against crew in ships collision

An FIR was registered against the crew members of MSC Chitra and MV Khaleejia-III vessels that collided off Mumbai harbour on Saturday resulting in huge oil spill, police said.

MUMBAI: An FIR was registered against the crew members of MSC Chitra and MV Khaleejia-III vessels that collided off Mumbai harbour on Saturday resulting in huge oil spill, police said.

"An FIR has been registered against captains and crew members of both the cargo ships under relevant sections of IPC and Environment Protection Act. Following a complaint by coast guard about the matter, the FIR was registered at Yellow Gate police station," DCP Khaled Qaiser said.

So far nobody has been arrested, the DCP said adding that all the crew members will be summoned to the police station for questioning in a day or two.

Two Panamanian cargo ships collided on Saturday off the Mumbai coast causing an oil spill from one of the vessels.

However, no casualties were reported.

Thirty three crew members, including two Pakistanis, were rescued following the incident.
