Delhi Police on Friday registered an FIR against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly violating the Public Property Act. The matter has been listed for the next hearing on April 18 in Delhi's Rouse Avenue court.

In an update given to the sessions court, the state police informed that an investigation into the matter has been initiated, following the formal complaint against Kejriwal and other individuals involved.

The Delhi court, on March 11, had directed the police to register an FIR against the AAP supremo, along with others, for allegedly misusing public funds to put up large hoardings across the national capital.

"This court is of the considered opinion that the application u/s 156(3) Cr.P.C. deserves to be allowed. Accordingly, the concerned SHO is directed to register an FIR immediately under section 3 of the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007, and any other offense that appears to have been committed from the facts of the case," Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal had said in her ruling.

The complaint, filed in 2019, accused Kejriwal, then Matiala MLA Gulab Singh (AAP), and former Dwarka A ward councilor Nitika Sharma of deliberately misusing public money by placing oversized hoardings at various locations across the area.
