LUCKNOW: An FIR was lodged against Uttar Pradesh government minister Ram Murti and nine others for setting a social media journalist on fire, who later succumbed to his injuries. Shahjahanpur-based social media journalist Jagendra Singh succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Lucknow on Monday after which the government, which was suppressing the matter, woke up to register an FIR against the minister and his supporters.

The incident happened on June 1, when a police team raided Singh’s residence to arrest him in a case. Singh before dying had in his statement to the media said that the sub-inspector Sriprakash Rai had doused him with petrol and set him on fire. He said that the minister was after his life ever since he exposed his land-grabbing and illegal-mining activities on the social media.
