A case has been registered here against a Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA for allegedly making objectionable remarks against BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut, police said on Thursday.

Cyber Police Station in-charge Rajeev Kumar Tiwari said a video purportedly showing Raniganj SP MLA Rakesh Kumar Verma making objectionable comments against Ranaut had gone viral on social media.

Based on the video, BJP Yuva Morcha district president Anshuman Singh submitted a complaint alleging that the SP MLA had made inappropriate remarks against the woman parliamentarian, he said.

Police subsequently registered an FIR against Verma under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), as well as provisions of the Information Technology Act.

Further investigation is underway, police said.
