FIR against Lok Sabha MP and chief of All India United Democratic Front Badruddin Ajmal

GUWAHATI: After a BJP leader in Assam filed a police complaint against the Lok Sabha MP and chief of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) Badruddin Ajmal for allegedly receiving funds from foreign agencies having terror links, Ajmal said that such complaints were politically motivated.

Satya Ranjaan Borah lodged a complaint against Ajmal. A police officer, who did not want to be named, told ET the FIR alleged Ajmal Foundation had misused funds received from foreign agencies which had terror links. The FIR is lodged under sections of IPC and Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act. The FIR has been filed under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 124A (sedition) and 420 (cheating) of IPC read with Section 13 of FCRA".

NGO Legal Rights Observatory (LRO) had stated several Turkey and UK-based organisations have given Rs 69.55 crore to Ajmal Foundation, a philanthropic organisation, for education.


LRO stated only around Rs 2 crore of the total amounts was spent on educational purposes. LRO also alleged that these funding agencies had links with Islamic terror groups such as Al Qaeda, Hamas and Hizbul Mujahideen.

Ajmal said, “This is a move to politically pressure me so that I leave politics or I do not side with any other party. This allegation has come within two days after I decided to jointly fight with congress in the Bodoland territorial council polls. If someone has some allegations one can move Union Ministry of Home ministry.”
