FIR against Asaram for threat to rape survivor’s kin
Followers of the godman allegedly distributed magazines claiming the accusations were false and motivated by missionaries looking to 'Christianise' the country.

According to the complaint, Asaram’s followers distributed magazines in Shahjahanpur city with articles aimed at provoking the masses against the survivor and her family.
Over 20,000 copies of the magazine which claimed that Asaram was framed in a conspiracy were distributed on December 22 across Shahjahanpur, the hometown of the rape survivor. The publication, titled ‘Adarsh Panchayati Raj’, talked only about the case. It also alleged that Christian missionaries and BJP members conspired with the teenaged girl’s father to file a “fake” rape case against the godman. The magazine also alleged that Christian missionaries were trying to make India a Christian nation and that “Asaram is the main hurdle to their goals”.
The survivor’s father had told TOI that as the case was at its final stage in court, and judgment was to be delivered soon, followers of Asaram were trying to incite the religious sentiments of Hindus against the survivor and her family. The father had expressed fears a mob would attack them.
So far, three eye-itnesses in this case have been murdered by unidentified killers.
