'Fingerprints do not match with main accused'

Delhi Police told the court hearing the BMW hit-and-run case that the fingerprints lifted by it from the car involved in the accident do not match with those of the main accused.

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Wednesday told the court hearing the BMW hit-and-run case that the fingerprints lifted by it from the car involved in the accident do not match with those of the main accused.

Special Public Prosecutor Rajeev Mohan appearing for the police said this while submitting a forensic report before Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar.

The police was on September 1 allowed to take fresh fingerprints of all the five accused in the case as the court acceded to their plea seeking them to match with those taken by it from the car which mowed down six people in 1999.

However, the prosecution told the court that a set of fingerprints found in the car matched with those of Manik Kapoor, an accused and one of the occupants of the vehicle.

The prosecution also told the court that it was difficult to have conclusive opinion on the finger prints as those taken from the car were smeared and smudged.

The prosecution today also filed a supplementary chargesheet in the case incorporating the forensic expert report and some other facts.

According to the prosecution, Nanda, who was driving his BMW in an "inebriated" state, had run over six people in the wee hours of January 10, 1999 near Lodhi Hotel.

It alleged that Nanda and his friends, who were travelling in the car, fled the scene of the accident though the police found some bloodstains on the vehicle later.
