NEW DELHI: Films can be an "effective" tool of communication for spreading the message of water conservation, Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharti today said.

"Water resources are prime input to the growth and prosperity of a nation and films can be an effective tool of communication for spreading the message of water conservation.

"Such films should be shown in every nook and corner of the country for the benefit of masses," she said while inaugurating 'Water Film Festival', a part of India Water Week celebrations.

The event will discuss important initiatives of the Ministry including Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojna, Jal Kranti Abhiyan, More Crop Per Drop and interlinking of rivers.

Besides, important topics such as water and health and power, agriculture and irrigation, industrial water efficiency, water supply and sanitation, climate change and water resources sector will come up for discussions during the Week which concludes on April 8.
