Field Marshal Cariappa deserves Bharat Ratna: Army chief

Army chief Gen. Bipin Rawat said it was time to recommend the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award, for Field Marshal KM Cariappa, one of three five-star generals of the Indian armed forces. "If others can get it (posthumously), I see no reason why Field Marshal Cariappa should not. The time has come to recommend his name for the award. He's a deserving person and we'll address the issue on priority," said Rawat, who was in Kodagu, 250km from Bengaluru.
