KOLKATA: Two years ago, on May 21, when she had walked nearly a quarter km to enter Writers’ Buildings to take charge of Bengal, millions cheered for her, hoping for poriborton (change). But today, on May 21, the streets of Kolkata were empty. No celebrations. So, what’s gone wrong? Actually, a lot, if you talk to people across the spectrum.

“I am absolutely frustrated... she has not kept a single promise. Singur farmers have not got their land back yet and she has failed to re-open a single industrial unit. No big industrialists have come to Bengal, and we hear that the Jindals too plan to leave Salboni. No one knows what’s happening at Jangalmahal, even though the government claims that peace has been restored there,” says educationist Sunando Sanyal, who had been with Banerjee right through her Nandigram and Singur days.

The Congress has recently released a booklet to highlight the failures of the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government.
