Federation to continue boycott of courts till July 18

The Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry District and lower court Advocates' associations' federation decided to continue boycott of courts till July 18.

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry District and lower court Advocates' associations' federation today decided to continue boycott of courts till July 18 in protest against a decision of the full bench of the Madras High Court to permit court staff apply for 201 vacancies of civil judges.

Federation president Paramasivam, who presided over the general council meeting, told reporters here that the lawyers would stage a rally at Chennai on Jul 18, demanding withdrawal of the decision to permit the High court as well as district court staff apply for vacancies for the post of civil judges.

The lawyers would also observe a token fast on July 16 in front of courts throughout the state, he said.

Though federation members had met Chief Justice A K Ganguly and requested him to withdraw the decision, he had not taken any step so far, Paramasivan alleged.

Of the 60,000 judges, 20000 judges are eligible to write examination for vacancies of civil judges.

The Tamil Nadu State Judicial (cadre and recruitment) services rules also do not permit court staff to sit for the examination.
