CHENNAI: The BJP today said apprehensions of villagers over the Koodankulam nuclear power project were "valid and genuine" and the Centre should address the people's concerns.

"Centre should study the issue carefully, taking into consideration all the recent developments across the globe (such as the Fukushima disaster). It should not go through the project blindly," BJP national secretary P Muralidhar Rao said.

"Apprehensions of the people are genuine and valid," he told reporters here, adding that the government should take a "sensitive decision" on the matter.

On corruption charges against party colleague and former Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, Rao said, "He has resigned and is facing legal proceedings. The state cabinet could have disowned the Lokayukta report (on land denotification)."
