Fast-track court to handle IT professional's murder, says Prithviraj Chavan
MUMBAI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has promised that the murder of Pune IT professional Mohsin Shaikh will be handled by a fast-track court and the state government would appoint Ujjwal Nikam as Special Public Prosecutor in the case.

Mohsin, a 24-year-old IT professional from Solapur, was beaten to death last Monday with hockey sticks by alleged activists of the Hindu Rashtra Sena (HRS) who went on a rioting spree after a Facebook post showed Maratha warrior Shivaji and Sena Chief Bal Thackeray in a poor light.

On Tuesday, a delegation of Congress MLAs helped Mohsin’s father Sadiq Shaikh and his youngest son Mobin meet the chief minister. The 25-member Congress delegation comprised former Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde’s daughter Pranati Shinde and Congress Mumbadevi MLA Amin Patel.

While Chavan was not available for comment after he met the delegation, Patel said the chief minister has promised that the case would be handled in a fast-track court and the state would appoint Ujjwal Nikam, who has got convictions in the 26/11 as well as in the 1992 serial blasts cases, as the Special Public Prosecutor.

The delegation had also demanded that Mohsin’s youngest brother Mobin be given a job by the state government and HRS be banned.
