BENGALURU: Farmers organisations staged demonstrations across Karnataka including Bengaluru on Monday, in support of the nationwide stir against the farm sector legislations and the state government’s move to amend the Land Reforms Act and the APMC Act.

The Karnataka bandh, however, received a lukewarm response and did not impede normal life across the state including in Bengaluru. Protesters staged massive rallies in the capital, urging the government to withdraw the amendments. Opposition Congress and JDS too extended support to the strike.

Protesters maintained that the new laws were anti-farmers.

Responding to the protest, CM BS Yediyurappa appealed to farmers to wait for at least six months to gauge the benefits of the new laws. He said he will travel across the state over the next few months to meet farmers and convince them about the merits of the new laws.

“I will tour the state and explain to them the benefits,” the CM said.
