Farmers committing suicide due to Samajwadi Party government policies: BJP

In a scathing attack on the ruling SP, BJP alleged that loopholes in the state gov's policies were compelling farmers to commit suicide.

LUCKNOW: In a scathing attack on the ruling Samajwadi Party, the BJP today alleged that loopholes in the state government's policies were compelling farmers to commit suicide.

" SP which made huge promises during assembly elections is not proving true on them. The government put conditions in giving unemployment allowance and the same is happening with the farmers," BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak alleged.

He said that the SP in its manifesto promised loan waiver for farmers, besides pension to small and marginal farmers above 65 years of age.

"The government made a provision of Rs 500 crore in the budget for loan waiver, but it will be applicable on cooperative banks only. Moreover no cut off date has been fixed," he claimed.

He also alleged that incidents of farmer suicides due to natural calamity and financial causes continued unabated in Bundelkhand region and sought immediate steps for the betterment of the state's farmers.
