Farmer suicide: All India Kisan Sabha asks government to provide Rs 10 lakh to kin
NEW DELHI: Farmers' group 'All India Kisan Sabha' ( AIKS) today demanded the Centre to provide a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of the farmer who committed suicide at an AAP rally here and urged it to withdraw its "anti-farmer" land bill.

41-year-old Gajendra Singh, a distressed farmer from Rajasthan, committed suicide today in full public view in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Terming the death of as "heart breaking", AIKS expressed sympathy with Singh's family.

"AIKS demands the Narendra Modi government to provide compensation of Rs 10 lakh to Singh's bereaved family. AIKS also demands the government to stop its manifold attack on farmers and immediately withdraw the anti-farmer Land Acquisition Bill," AIKS president Amra Ram and General Secretary Hanna Mollah said in a joint statement.

Earlier, CPI (M) General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Sitaram Yechury, AIKS treasurer P Krishnaprasad, Students Federation of India (SFI) Joint Secretary Vikram Singh visited the RML Hospital, where the farmer was taken and declared brought dead.
