Faridkot firing: Rahul Gandhi to lead Punjab delegation to President Pranab Mukherjee

NEW DELHI: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will lead a delegation comprising all top party leaders from Punjab on Thursday to meet President Pranab Mukherjee to seek an independent inquiry by a sitting Supreme Court judge into the recent Faridkot firing incident, said Shakeel Ahmad, AICC General Secretary in-charge of Punjab.

Instead of a CBI inquiry, the Congress wants an independent, time-bound inquiry headed by a sitting Supreme Court judge into the Faridkot firing incident Leaders of all factions of Punjab Congress, including Captain Amarinder Singh, PK Bajwa, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, party MPs from the state, PCC office bearers and AICC representatives, are expected to join Gandhi in what is also tipped as the second show of unity in the last two weeks since Gandhi’s visit to the state.

Two people were killed and many injured in alleged police firing on a group of people sitting on a ‘dharna’ in protest against the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari.

Gandhi, during his visit to meet the families of the firing victims had promised to take up the case at the highest level in the country.
