Faridabad gears up for C'wealth Games

FARIDABAD: It is not just Capital city, the neighbourhood too is on a run preparing itself for Commonweath Games 2010. Contrary to its earlier sorry picture, Faridabad is fast changing face from a state of neglect, to become a specimen of developed civic infrastructure.

The funds are flowing in and the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) — the only elected body in the whole state, is at work for betterment.

The present Congress government in power has put matters at an urgent platform foreseeing the Games. The Central government has also reportedly placed large funds at city’s disposal.

The state government, realising the urgency of the matter, was on the lookout for someone who could get things done at a fast pace to meet the 2010 deadline. R K Khullar — an IAS of 1988 batch — has recently taken over as the new municipal commissioner. While speaking to Times City, Khullar explained that he believes in quick decisions and their equally quick implementation.

He was aware of the city’s needs such as roads, storm water outlets, drinking water, sewerage disposal and flyovers. He also emphasised urgent work to be done for Faridabad’s contribution in conducting the Commonwealth Games in the National Capital Region.

According to another senior officer of MCF, as funds are received in trickles, the work also gets done at a snail’s pace. Those at the helm of affairs should realise that deadlines can be met only when the required funds are fully available.

However, the new MCF commissioner is optimistic and said: ‘‘We have plenty of funds and we shall go ahead with all the tasks. This has raised many expectations among the citizens who hope of that their city finds its rightful place in the National Capital Region.’’
