Family members have to adhere to quarantine rules: Assam health minister

GUWAHATI: Assam health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that new rule of home quarantine will be applicable soon where not only the person in quarantine but the other members of the family in the same house will have to adhere to the norms of quarantine.

Assam on Tuesday registered highest single day spike in the COVID 19 cases with as many as 39 positive cases. Total cases now stand at 154.

Sarma said, “There is no use of home quarantine if other members residing in the same house keep on coming out. So the new rules of home quarantine stipulate that all the members residing in the house will have to 14 days quarantine norms.”


Sarma earlier stated that the government embarked on the policy of ruthless quarantine with human heart stating that there is no link between opening up of businesses and the increase in the number of COVID -19 cases.

Sarma on Monday said that Assam will have to quarantine around one lakh people. “The cost of quarantine per person for 14 days comes to around Rs 30,000”.

He said state government will follow ruthless quarantine with big heart. “We will do everything possible to make people in quarantine comfortable however he must have to undergo 14 days quarantine.”

Sarma said, “There are no chances of community spread in Assam however we have to ensure that quarantine does not fail.
