Families of Arunachal’s missing persons yet to register complaint

Guwahati: Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian has said that they have no details to release yet on the message sent by the Indian Army to the PLA regarding the five Indians who have been missing since September 3. Meanwhile, the families of the missing persons are yet to register a formal complaint.

The Global Times has tweeted: “China has never recognised so-called “Arunachal Pradesh”, which is China’s south Tibet region, and we have no details to release yet about the question on the Indian Army sending a message to PLA about five missing Indians in the region: Chinese FM spokesperson Zhao Lijian.”

The Arunachal police are yet to track down the five people who were allegedly abducted by the PLA from the Sera-7 area. Superintendent of Police of Upper Subansiri district Taru Gussar told ET: “The fact-finding team has talked to villagers from the region where the missing people belonged. There is no formal complaint from the family members yet.”


Tezpur-based defence spokesman Lt Col Harshvarshan Pande said: “There is no response to the hotline message yet.”

Two people, who were with the five missing people, have managed to escape. Those allegedly kidnapped have been identified as Toch Singkam, Prasat Ringling, Dongtu Ebiya, Tanu Baker and Ngaru Diri, all from the Tagin community. The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has requested the Centre and state government to ensure the safe release of the five youths.
