MUMBAI: In what could be troubling for some senior political leaders from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and a few former police officers, the Maharashtra government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe whether the then MVA government had tried to falsely implicate chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The state government has constituted a four-member SIT team that will be headed by IPS officer Satyanarayan Chaudhary, Joint Commissioner (Law and order), Mumbai Police, and will have three other police officers. The team has been asked to submit a report as soon as possible. The SIT was formed after BJP MLC Pravin Darekar had, in December last year, claimed that there was an attempt to arrest Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde when the MVA was in power. Darekar had also showed an alleged sting operation where some police officer was caught in the operation speaking of the plan to arrest Fadnavis and Shinde, who was a minister in the MVA government, in a fake case. Fadnavis was the Opposition leader when this alleged conspiracy was hatched, according to Darekar.
