Fake stamp paper case: Draft charges against Telgi submitted

The Maharashtra government has submitted before the sessions court draft charges against Abdul Karim Telgi and eight others in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam.

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government on Wednesday submitted before the sessions court draft charges against Abdul Karim Telgi and eight others in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam.

The draft charges against Telgi and the other accused are of conspiracy, forgery and counterfeiting. The session court will now hear the case on April 21.

All the nine persons are accused of selling fake stamps worth Rs 70 lakh to five companies-Ashok Leylands, Tata Finance, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank of India and Bioplast Ltd.

Special public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat in the draft charges has mentioned that eight out of the nine accused are directly involved in the conspiracy. The ninth accused, police inspector Ganpat Jadhav facilitated the offence by the act of omission and commission.

The nine accused are Telgi, Shabbir Ahmed Shaikh close aide of Telgi, stamp suppliers- Mohammad Yassim and Ram Ratan, stamp sellers Sanjay Gaikwad, Riyaz Mokashi, Mallesh Dhullanwar, and Daniel Kanikraj and assistant police inspector Ganpat Jadhav.
