'Fake' degree row: AAP faces BJP, Congress heat as latter demand Jitender Singh Tomar’s resignation

NEW DELHI: A day after Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar’s law degree was alleged to be a fake in the high court, the Aam Aadmi Party government faced fresh attacks from the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress, which sought his resignation. The demands reportedly prompted Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to seek an explanation from Tomar, who said his degree was genuine.

"A fabricated case based on lies cannot be a reason to resign. My degree is 100% genuine -- I have all documents to prove it. The matter is in court now. The court will decide. Have patience," Tomar told reporters.

Delhi government spokesperson Nagendar Sharma denied that Kejriwal had summoned Tomar for an explanation. However, speculation was rife that Tomar’s chips were down after Kejriwal last month relieved him of the home portfolio, reportedly unhappy with his performance.

Meanwhile, in the Gajendra Singh suicide case, the Delhi Police on Tuesday rubbished stories that it had sent a report to the government terming the incident an accidental death. "The investigations are still on and we have not reached a conclusion," Delhi police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said.
