Fake degree: BJP demands immediate removal of Jitender Singh Tomar

NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP today accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of adopting "double standards" on the issue of corruption and demanded expulsion of his Law Minister who is facing charges of having a fake law degree.

BJP threatened to take to the streets if Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar was not removed immediately after Bihar's Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University submitted in the Delhi High Court that Tomar's provisional certificate is "fabricated and does not exist in the institution's record".

"He (Kejriwal) has continuously been adopting double standards. After the affidavit of Bhagalpur University in the Delhi High Court what are they waiting for?" Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay asked.

"If Jitender Singh Tomar is not removed from the government, BJP will take to the streets...," he said.

"Tomar has misguided the (Delhi) government and its system by tendering a false affidavit that itself is a criminal offence. The affidavit by Bhagalpur University has stated that Tomar's degree is 'fake' and still he was being shielded even though the whole matter was before Kejriwal and it was a clear case of patronage by the chief minister," the BJP leader said.

Party leader Nand Kishor Garg, who has filed a petition against Tomar's election from Trinagar, alleged that not only Tomar but 12 other MLAs of AAP indulged in "corrupt practices" and details of their "misdeeds" will be exposed soon.

Regarding the fake degree issue, Garg said he would resign from politics if proved wrong about his charges against Tomar.

He claimed AAP was seriously thinking of removing Tomar from the government. "Sources in AAP have told me that his matter will be discussed in the disciplinary committee meeting on August 8 and he will be removed afterwards as his offence was proved," Garg added.
