MUMBAI: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has asked BJP functionaries to be ready for the upcoming elections. Fadnavis made the remark on Tuesday in Mumbai while addressing BJP’s top office-bearers. State BJP chief Raosaheb Danve and other district presidents were also present.

His comment has given rise to talks that elections to the state and Centre may be held around the same time next year. While the Parliamentary polls are to be held in April- May, Maharashtra’s assembly elections may be held in October.

The CM spoke about the Bhima Koregaon violence and called it a ‘huge conspiracy against the state government. According to him, an attempt was made to incite a riot and create caste divisions.

Fadnavis said the state had handled the situation well and prevented the violence from getting out of hand. Fadnavis’ call to the cadre is crucial as only a few days ago, BJP minister from the state Girish Bapat had created a buzz when during a programme he had said the BJP government in the state may not remain in power after a year.
