Extradition of Kasab an issue between India and Pakistan: US
US said the extradition of Ajmal Amir Kasab as being demanded by Pakistan from India is an issue between the two South Asian neighbours and that he should be put through a judicial process which is fair and transparent.
Kasab, the sole attacker survivor of the Mumbai terrorist attack which killed 183 people including several foreign nationals, is currently under the custody of Mumbai Police and is being tried in a Mumbai court.
"I think that he (Kasab) should be put through a judicial process and that judicial process should be fair and transparent," State Department spokesperson Gordon Duguid told reporters at his daily press conference.
"I don't have an opinion on whether he should be extradited or not. That would be between India and Pakistan," Duguid said when referred to reports that Pakistan sought extradition of Kasab from India.
Quoting top Government officials, local Pakistani press today said Islamabad has requested the Indian government to hand over the custody of Kasab as he was the prime suspect of Mumbai terrorist attack. Pakistan has lodged a FIR against six terrorists involved in Mumbai attack.
