Ex-Supreme Court judge Madan Lokur sworn in as a judge of Fiji SC

NEW DELHI: Justice Madan Lokur, who retired from the Supreme Court of India in December last year, is back as a sitting Judge, but this time as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Fiji.

He was on Monday sworn in by the President of Fiji Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Jioji Konrote, in the presence of the Chief Justice Kamal Kumar and others. This is for the first time that an Indian has been appointed to the Supreme Court of another country.

"This is a great honour and a recognition of the respect that other countries have for Indian jurisprudence," Justice Lokur, who took oath on the Bhagvad Gita, told ET. Former SC Judge would be going to Fiji twice a year and handle civil, criminal, constitutional, commercial matters etc.
