Ex-MLA Bhaiya Raja dead

He was serving life imprisonment after being convicted for murdering his grand niece Vasundhara Bundela, a student of fashion designing course at Misrod.

BHOPAL: Former MLA Ashok Veer Vikram Singh alias Bhaiya Raja, who was undergoing treatment at government-run Hamadia Hospital in judicial custody, died today. 65-year-old Bhaiya Raja, who had suffered a brain haemorrhage and was admitted to Intensive Care Unit of the hospital on December 15, breathed his last around 6 AM, Hospital Superintendent Dr D K Pal said. Once a terror in Isagarh and Pawai areas of Chhatarpur, he was serving life imprisonment after being convicted for murdering his grand niece Vasundhara Bundela, a student of fashion designing course at Misrod near here on December 11, 2009. The family members of Vasundhara had alleged that Bhaiya Raja had also sexually exploited her.

Besides life imprisonment, Bhaiya Raja along with his wife and former BJP MLA Asha Rani had been convicted in a abetment of suicide case of their maid servant for 10 years.

He was elected as an Independent MLA from Pawai in Chhatarpur between 1990 and 1992.

The body of Bhaiya Raja has been sent for post-mortem, family sources said. His last rites would be performed at his native place Gharwar tomorrow, they said.
