Ex-Lieutenant Governor of J&K G C Murmu is appointed to be the new CAG of India
Girish Chandra Murmu will succeed Rajiv Mehrishi who completes his term on August 8. Murmu was appointed as the first LG of J and K after the formation of the new union territories.

— ANI (@ANI) 1596734276000A tweet by Press Information Bureau Odisha tweeted a notification issued by ministry of finance late Thursday evening. “....President has been pleased to appoint Girish Chandra Murmu to be the Comptroller &Auditor General....”, the notification said.
Murmu held the position of secretary in the department of expenditure prior to this. Murmu had resigned from his post as the LG on Wednesday.
Mehrishi’s term ends this week. CAG is appointed for a term of six year or till the person attains 65 years of age, whichever is earlier. Mehrishi will turn 65 on August 8th.
Mehrishi, a 1978 retired IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre, was appointed CAG in September 2017.
