"Member of Parliament and former Calcutta High Court judge Mr Abhijit Gangopadhyay, 63, got admitted at Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital on June 14, 2025, Saturday, with complaints of vomiting, abdominal pain, and abdominal distension, the hospital said today.
"Investigations have indicated acute pancreatitis with gastrointestinal sepsis. Currently, Mr Gangopadhyay remains under close observation in the ICU. He is stable but critically ill and under continuous monitoring. A multidisciplinary medical board, comprising internal medicine and critical care specialist, cardiologist, pulmonologist, endocrinologist, gastroenterologist and Gl surgeon, has been formed to ensure comprehensive and coordinated management of his condition," Managing Director & CEO of Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital Ltd Rupak Barua said in a statement today.
"Gangopadhyay felt some uneasiness and was admitted to the hospital on Saturday afternoon," the hospital said. Gangopadhyay, who resigned as a judge and joined BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok sabha polls.
Gangopadhyay resigned as Calcutta High Court judge in March 2024 and was known for his various judgements which helped unearth the SSC scam. He joined the BJP later. He won the Tamluk Lok Sabha seat in East Medinipur district of Bengal.
