Ex-Congress leader Pijush Kanti Biswas and five others from Tripura join Trinamool Congress
The TMC in a statement announced that Biswas, who was Assistant Solicitor General of India and former President of the Tripura High Court Bar Council, would soon be appointed as the Tripura state President of the Trinamool Congress.

The other political leaders joined the TMC along with Biswas, include, Tejen Das, Ananta Banerjee, Bimal Rudra Paul, Purnita Chakma and Samarendra Ghosh.
Das and Banerjee have been former General Secretaries of Tripura Pradesh Congress, Chakma has been a former Working President of Tripura Mahila Congress, Ghosh previously worked as the former General Secretary of Tripura Youth Congress.
Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya are going to polls early next year. Banerjee would visit Meghalaya on December 12-13.
A senior party leader said that Banerjee during his two day stay in Meghalaya would hold meetings with the party functionaries and various other stakeholders.
She is also expected to participate in a pre-christmas celebration with children.
Former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma along with 11 Congress MLAs joined the Trinamool Congress in November 2021, and now the party is the main opposition party in Meghalaya.
However, on November 28, Trinamool Congress MLA H.M Shangpliang submitted his resignation to Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh and he is likely to join BJP
