EVMs to be used in local bar election

The New Delhi Bar Association for the first time will use the electronic voting machines (EVMs) in its annual election.

NEW DELHI: The New Delhi Bar Association for the first time will use the electronic voting machines (EVMs) in its annual election.

"For the first time, the EVMs, which would be provided by the Electronic Corporation of India, would be used in the election of a bar association," Ramesh Gupta, a noted lawyer, who is also appointed as returning officer for the polls, said.

Over 2,800 advocates, enrolled with the NDBA which represents Patiala House District Court lawyers, would elect their leaders in the election, scheduled on April 11.

Thirty nine candidates were fighting for various posts in the Bar, he said, adding "results would be out on the same day, thanks to the EVMs".
