Every election a celebration of democracy: Mamata Banerjee
KOLKATA: Every election in a democracy was its celebration, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said at the oath-taking ceremony of the Mayor of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, which the Trinamool Congress retained in the civic elections held recently.

"Every election in a democracy is a celebration of democracy," Banerjee said while thanking the people for her party's sweeping victory in the KMC election at a function in the historic Town Hall.

Speaking after Sobhan Chatterjee took oath as the Mayor for his second term, the Chief Minister said, "The change that has taken place in the city in the last three to four years is visible. Kolkata has been turned into number one among all non-planned cities in the country."

Mala Roy, who recently came back to Trinamool Congress, took oath as the chairperson of KMC.

Several dignitaries, including consuls of some foreign consulates, senior ministers and top officials were present.
