Every clause being considered: BJP on land acquisition

CHANDIGARH: Amidst allegations by AAP that the BJP government in Haryana had slashed compensation for land acquisition, the party today stressed that he interests of farmers was paramount for the government.

State BJP chief Subhash Barala sought to assure by saying that every single clause in the new law was being carefully considered.

When reporters pointed out that AAP was vigorously raising farmers' issues in the state, Barala, in a dig at the party, said, "They are the very same people who had left the people of Delhi in a lurch last year."

"We know the promises we have made to our people and how to fufill these. Moreover, we have constituted study groups of MLAs, which will take a direct feedback from the public and we will fulfill even those genuine demands, which have not been part of our manifesto," the BJP leader said.

AAP leader Yogendra Yadav had criticised the BJP government for reducing the compensation amount by almost 50 per cent for land acquisition, and said that the party would launch a state-wide ' Jai Kisan Abhiyan' against the ruling dispensation's "anti-farmer approach".

Asked about the BJP's pre-poll promise to give farmers 50 per cent more on crop produce, Barala stressed that the Swaminathan Commission report was very vast and it should not be restricted to just one aspect, which is about increasing the Minimum Support Price for foodgrains and other farm produce on the basis of input cost plus 50 per cent.

"It talks about diversification, issue of crop storage, marketing of produce of farmers and other issues and we remain committed to that," he said.
