Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke referred to the Emergency under former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in his last social media post before Delhi Police detained him and fellow party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka from their flight shortly after it landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, on Saturday.

“Picking up 30-year-olds straight off the plane is something even Indira Gandhi didn't do during the Emergency,” Dipke said in the video, alleging that police were taking the leaders into custody for planning a peaceful protest.

He called the action a sign of fear within the government and described it as a “dictatorship”.

The video captured Delhi Police personnel boarding the aircraft shortly after the flight's landing and lining up inside the plane as they approached the CJP leaders.

Dipke said officers were attempting to arrest them before they could leave the aircraft, adding that other passengers were also being prevented from disembarking, causing them inconvenience.

A police officer could be heard telling Dipke, “Your protest application has been accepted; that is why we have come, so please cooperate.”

The video also captured an exchange between the CJP leaders, with voices in the background saying, “Love you”, “We will do this together” and “Inquilab Zindabad”.

“Go ahead, arrest us; we came here precisely to get arrested. We won't be intimidated by you,” Dipke said in the video.

The detentions came ahead of the CJP’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The party has demanded Kumar’s resignation over alleged manipulation of electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and changes relating to Form 6, which is used for voter registration.

In a statement, the CJP condemned what it called a pre-planned interception aimed at preventing its leaders from reaching the protest site and demanded their immediate, unconditional release. Delhi Police had denied permission for the demonstration, citing security and procedural concerns, and imposed prohibitory orders in the New Delhi area.

The action formed part of a wider security clampdown across the capital.

Police detained over 200 people attempting to reach Jantar Mantar, while police sources said more than 600 people with criminal records were detained across Delhi’s 15 districts as a preventive measure. Security arrangements also included restrictions on entry and exit at 45 Metro stations, intensified checks at border points and the deployment of drones and additional personnel.
