Eurozone crisis plan 'will not disappoint': France

French Economy Minister Christine Lagarde said Saturday that observers would "not be disappointed" by measures adopted by eurozone countries to combat the financial crisis.

WASHINGTON: French Economy Minister Christine Lagarde said Saturday that observers would "not be disappointed" by measures adopted by eurozone countries to combat the financial crisis.

"I can assure you that you will not be disappointed," she told reporters in Washington, adding that there would be "concrete" measures announced.

Lagarde stressed that a statement by the Group of Seven rich countries on Friday announcing a five-point action plan was "of an exceptional nature" but acknowledged that the plan was a bit vague.

"Some of us would have wanted something sharper, stronger but at least it was supported" by all in the group -- the United States, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan.

An emergency meeting called Sunday in Paris of eurozone countries by French President Nicolas Sarkozy "would try to put some flesh on the bones" of the G7 plan so as to take it further, Lagarde said.

Lagarde said earlier that the Paris meeting would discuss the possibility of guaranteeing interbank lending -- a proposal aimed at getting the credit markets working again so that banks will feel confident enough to start making fresh loans.

There will be "without doubt a debate" on the issue, she said on the sidelines of a meeting of the International Monetary Fund.
