ET GBS: Must move people to manufacturing, says Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Alok Ranjan
NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh is growing at a pace faster than the country as a whole, said state chief secretary Alok Ranjan at the Economic Times Global Business Summit on Saturday. It has been able to dramatically accelerate growth through a sector-specific policy framework that was put in place two years ago and focusing on reforms in every field, including agriculture, energy, manufacturing, education and health.

Uttar Pradesh is growing at a pace faster than the country as a whole, said state chief secretary Alok Ranjan at the Economic Times Global Business Summit on Saturday. A sector-specific policy framework put in place two years ago has made this possible. It focuses on reforms in every field, agriculture, energy, manufacturing, education and health.

Ranjan said Uttar Pradesh’s large population “is a strength and opportunity. UP has to grow for the country to develop.” Major infrastructure projects are opening up investment opportunities in central and eastern UP. The government is also spending a significant part of the budget to provide at least 16 hours of uninterrupted electricity supply in rural areas. “The service sector is growing well but it is manufacturing we want to focus on,” said Ranjan.
