ET Awards 2015: Opposition shouldn’t just oppose, must give ideas, says Suresh Prabhu

I think you know the Opposition has to oppose certain things. That is why we call them Opposition. But they also have a responsibility of proposition. So they must propose something," said railways minister Suresh Prabhu. "They must come forward and give alternative ideas, which are workable, not put certain impossible conditions, which cannot be fulfilled."

He said this is for the first time that we are getting a high-speed project (bullet train) in the country. "See, if you look at China’s growth, there are many reasons why China could grow at 10 per cent-plus for so many years, but one of the big contributing factors for that was connectivity, and also, of course, tax reforms was another reason. Therefore, the GST is important," he said. The Japanese have given us 80-85 per cent of what we are going to do, about Rs 1 lakh-crore project, he said. It will be made in India so that the prime minister’s Make in India campaign will be really successful.

There will be technology transfer and that will help the whole ecosystem. "I will just give one example. When Suzuki came to India, we were never part of the global supply chain for auto components, but because of that one big factory coming into the country, all of these ecosystems got developed," he said.
