ESIC Board may mull over raising wage ceiling

The government may consider raising the ceiling on wages so that more employees can avail of the benefits of the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) scheme.

NEW DELHI: The government may consider raising the ceiling on wages so that more employees can avail of the benefits of the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) scheme.

The rise in the wage ceiling which is currently at Rs 7,500 per month may be considered on Thursday's ESIC Board meeting, to be chaired by Labour Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, official sources said.

The Labour Minister is the ex-officio chairman of the ESIC Board.

The 136th meeting of the ESIC Board of Directors will consider proposal for having a full-fledged engineering wing on the pattern of CPWD to carry out the task of construction of buildings for hospitals and their maintenance.

The ESIC has 2,200 acres of land with a built up area of over 25 lakh sq metres. The buildings include hospitals, dispensaries and administrative offices.

The meeting will also take a decision on handing over the ESIC hospital at Sahibabad, close to the national capital, to the Uttar Pradesh Government, and the takeover of the ESIC hospital in Noida for converting it into a modern hospital.
