Era of development has begun in Vidarbha: Vilasrao
Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Saturday performed bhomipujan for Lower Pedhi Major Project and Bordi Nullah Medium project at Nimfa in Bhatkuli tehsil and Konwardha in Chandur Bazaar tehsil respectively.
"A new era of development has begun in Vidarbha," Vilasrao said urging the people to make the most of it.
He asked the public representatives to concentrate on 'politics of development".
Deshmukh said that out of the total Rs 6,000 cr sanctioned by the government in the budget, Rs 2,600 are exclusively for Vidarbha.
Out of these Rs 2,600 crore, Rs. 2000 crore are for Amravati division and the remaining for Nagpur division, he said.
Referring to the opposition to some projects, Deshmukh said, "We will see to it that farmers do not have to suffer losses. We will pay them proper price for their land and ensure proper rehabilitation. We will come out with a good package on this front," Vilasrao said.
"If you (farmers) do not co-operate, things will not move even if there is availability of funds," he said.
Vilasrao Deshmukh assured the gathering that in next two to three years, the main backlog in irrigation sector would be cleared completely.
He said because of good State-Centre co-ordination, projects in Maharashtra were being implemented with speed.
Vilasrao also unveiled the corner stone of 13 other developmental projects.
