EOW registers case against Electricity Board ex-secy, his son

The EOW of Madhya Pradesh Police has registered a case against former Secretary of State Electricity Board P K Vaishya and his son Ravi.

BHOPAL: The Economic Offences Wing ( EOW) of Madhya Pradesh Police has registered a case against former Secretary of State Electricity Board P K Vaishya and his son Ravi among others for providing illegal benefits to a firm owned by the latter.

Vaishya in his capacity as the Secretary of the Board had amended conditions of tenders in a bid to make his son's firm (Pragya Enterprises) eligible for the tendering process, by flouting the rules, an official release said today.

As per the rules of the Board none of its employees or their relatives are eligible to take part in the tendering process for awarding contracts and those filing tenders have to give a 'declaration' in this regard while submitting tenders.

But, Vaishya amended the above condition only for those tenders in which his son's firm took part while it (condition) remained unchanged for other tenders.

The supply reciept for 17 transformers too was found to be fake and the repairing and re-conditioning work carried out by the firm too was found sub-standard causing huge losses (in lakhs) to the Board.

The EOW has registered a case against Vaishya, his son, three retired chief engineers --D A Bende, C B Patel and S B Dube--and other officials under sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 120B of the IPC and sections 13(1) D and 13(2) of the Anti-Corruption Act, 1988.
